Methodology

How every figure on EquityVue is worked out. No hidden score, no black box.

EquityVue reports readings — what an indicator shows today — not ratings. There is no combined score and no buy, sell or hold call. All calculations use daily closing prices unless the chart is set to an intraday interval.

Data and where it comes from

Every figure on EquityVue carries a line saying where it came from and the date it is as of. These are all the sources EquityVue reads from today:

If a source has no data for something, EquityVue shows "No data" or "not available" rather than a guess. Today's price and company feeds are public web sources; EquityVue is moving to a licensed data vendor, and this table will name it when that happens.

Moving averages (DMA 20 / 50 / 100 / 200)

Simple average of the last N daily closes.

ReadingMeaning
Above all NToday's close is above every moving average shown
Below all NToday's close is below every moving average shown
Above k of NThe close is above some averages and below others

The detail line also says whether the averages are in order (20 above 50 above 100 above 200, or the reverse).

RSI (14)

Relative Strength Index, Wilder's method, 14 days: RSI = 100 − 100 / (1 + average gain ÷ average loss). It runs from 0 to 100.

ReadingRange
Above 7070 or more
55–7055 to under 70
45–55over 45 to under 55
30–45over 30 to 45
Below 3030 or less

Many traders call RSI above 70 "overbought" and below 30 "oversold". EquityVue shows the number and the band only: a high or low RSI can last a long time and is not a signal to act.

MACD (12, 26, 9)

MACD = EMA(12) − EMA(26) of closes; signal line = EMA(9) of MACD; histogram = MACD − signal.

ReadingMeaning
Crossed above / Crossed belowThe histogram changed sign on the latest bar
Positive, rising / fallingHistogram above zero; its direction over the last 5 bars
Negative, rising / fallingHistogram below zero; its direction over the last 5 bars

Bollinger Bands (20, 2)

Middle band = 20-day average of closes; upper and lower bands = middle ± 2 standard deviations. %B = (close − lower) ÷ (upper − lower) × 100.

ReadingMeaning
Above upper band / Below lower bandClose is outside the bands
Upper half%B 60 or more, inside the bands
Near midline%B between 40 and 60
Lower half%B 40 or less, inside the bands

"Bands narrowing" means the band width is smaller than on the previous bar.

Breakout conditions

A checklist of three facts about today. EquityVue counts how many are true; it does not predict a move.

  1. Volume surge — today's volume is at least 3× the average of the previous 20 days.
  2. Near the 52-week high — the close is within 2% of the highest high of the last 252 trading days, or above it.
  3. RSI band — RSI (14) is between 60 and 80.

Triggers

Events found in the last 7 trading days:

"Up" and "Down" describe the direction of the cross only.

Anchored VWAP

Volume-weighted average price, starting from an anchor date: Σ(typical price × volume) ÷ Σ(volume), typical price = (high + low + close) ÷ 3. By default the anchor is the most recent day in the last 120 with volume at least 2× its 20-day average; you can pick your own date on the chart. Within ±1.5% the price is treated as "at" the VWAP.

Key levels

Price zones where several methods land close together:

Levels within 0.8% of each other merge into one zone; a zone lists every method in it. Average true range (14 days) is shown as a measure of the typical daily price range.

Markets today

For each index, sector, currency, rate and commodity: the latest close, the move since the previous close, and the move over about one month (the last close on or before 30 days earlier). Bond yields show their moves in percentage points. "Up / down today" counts NIFTY 50 stocks whose close is above / below the previous close.

The company summary is written by an AI model (Anthropic Claude) using only the figures on the page. It is told to state facts, give no opinion or call, and say when data is missing. Check it against company filings.
